Floored

Floored is an installation of images and interactable artefacts that considers the relationship between objects and their associated meanings.

The skating community often repurposes mundane objects and transforms them to a site of play and enjoyment. This results in locations as a subversive resistance to conformity of the traditional use of materials in society.

This work embraces DIY culture through a parody of product modelling photography and the satirical construction of their intended design.

The maquettes depicted on repurposed carpet flooring reimagine a former skate parks’ obstacles removed by authorities as a homage to their activistic spirit.

Conversely, the materials used in the subsequently manufactured obstacles are recycled from functioning skate facilities, including Rollersnakes, Derby, and Adrenaline Alley, Corby, who kindly donated to this project.
